FREE GROUND SHIPPING on our patented Worm Farm, home to voracious wiggly recyclers ready to eat their way through your kitchen or yard waste. Endorsed by Master Gardeners nationwide for its eco-friendly footprint, it’s the best-selling worm farm of its kind. HOW IT WORKS: - Consists of a sturdy top box with a lid, which form a neat, compact portable unit
- A single bottom tray with legs & a drain spout collects the liquid & allows you to catch the nutrient rich "liquid tea" for your plants
- The worms eat & breed in the top box
- Top box has a perforated base to allow any liquid waste to drain through to the bottom (collector) box
- The "worm poo" or worm castings remain in the top box & can be harvested as desired
- The bottom ("catcher") box collects the valuable liquid waste which can be diluted and used as fertilizer in your garden
- No odor is generated because the worms actually eat the bacteria which causes odor
- Detailed set-up & use instructions included
- Your choice: black or green
HOW YOU SET IT UP: - Line the base of the top box with two or three layers of dampened newspaper (if you have a shredder, it’s best to run it through it first; if not, tear into narrow strips)
- Add some compost or potting mix to create a layer about 1-2 inches deep
- Add your worms (composting worms are red worms) to one side & cover with a piece of dampened burlap or damp newspaper cut to size
- Place the scraps underneath this cover on the opposite side of where you placed the worms
- Let the games begin!
HOW TO HARVEST WORM CASTINGS: - A couple of weeks before you plan to harvest your worm castings, begin feeding them toward one side; this will cause them to migrate there & make the job easier when you dump it out
- Dump the contents of the upper bin onto a large plastic tarp or bag, because it is a messy job
- Set up the upper bin with fresh “bedding” just as you did originally
- Shift as many worms into the fresh bedding as you can find (they’re usually kind of bunched together in globs)
- As you sort through the material, remove egg casings to the refreshed bin (they look like tiny opaque pearls)
- There are a couple of other ways to do this process, but this is the most hands-on for kids & the best teaching tool
ABOUT THE WORMS - Special composting red worms are REQUIRED (night crawlers won’t work) & can be sourced locally or on the web
- Worms are fast breeders & consume their own weight in food in 24 hours, so feed them well
- You’ll need 1,000 worms to start for a family of 4; if you’re going to use it at school & let kids feed them, go for 2,000
- Each worm produces an egg capsule about every two weeks, each containing between 5 & 15 worms, so you’ll have plenty
- Worm capsules hatch in three weeks & mature within three months
- Worms only breed to their environment, so if you reduce the amount of food going in, their population automatically decreases
SPECIFICATIONS: - Constructed of UV treated, high impact recycled polypropylene hardened plastic
- Dimensions: 21.5 ”L x 13.5” W x 13” H

The vermi-composter can be used year-round. You’ll just have to ensure the worms are kept warm (heated garage/laundry room) & well fed. Simply add your kitchen scraps (no meats or fats) & your worms will be happy campers. If you have kids, you’ll be getting more help at kitchen clean-up time, believe me!
